Gestalt and Equine
Assisted Psychotherapy.
Trauma-informed counselling in Bundaberg where you can slow down, feel heard and reconnect with yourself, with others and with the world around you.
Hello, I’m Joanne Spotswood.
I’m a Gestalt Psychotherapist and Equine Assisted Mental Health Practitioner with a background in education. I work with adolescents and adults who are seeking a nature-centred, holistic approach to therapy.
I believe healing happens in relationship. My approach honours the connection between body, mind, and nervous system. Whether we meet in the therapy room or out in the paddock with the horses, my hope is to offer a space that feels safe, warm and grounded, a space where you can gently explore who you are, where you’ve been and where you’d like to grow.
I am a member of Animal Assisted Therapies LTD, the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and a registered Equine Assisted Mental Health Practitioner.
How We Work Together
Every person comes to therapy with a unique story. Some come feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Others come simply wanting to feel more connected and at ease. At Attuned Psychotherapy, sessions are guided by presence, curiosity and care.
There’s no pressure to be a certain way, just an open invitation to be yourself. Together, we notice what arises in the moment: thoughts, emotions, patterns, or physical sensations. From there, we gently explore new ways of understanding, responding, and relating.
You don’t need to have the “right words” or know exactly what to say. We begin wherever you are.
Our Services
-
Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy focuses on present-moment awareness, how you're feeling, thinking, and sensing right now and helps you make meaning of patterns that may be shaping your experience. Over time, clients often report feeling more self-aware, more grounded and more able to respond to life with clarity.
-
Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine therapy takes place outdoors on a serene 40-acre property, where sessions unfold with the support of a horse. Their sensitivity to emotion and energy creates a safe, grounded space—ideal for clients drawn to nature or seeking alternatives to conventional talk-based approaches.
What to Expect in Sessions
Sessions are gentle, collaborative, and tailored to your pace. You can choose the setting that feels most supportive - indoors in a calm, private therapy room, online from your own space, or outdoors in nature among the horses.
We’ll work together to support your emotional well-being, explore challenges and build your inner and outer resources. Every session is grounded in respect, confidentiality and compassion. Everything shared in sessions is treated with the highest level of confidentiality and care.
Who We Work With
Therapy is open to anyone looking for support, growth, or space to breathe.
People who seek support at Attuned Psychotherapy often include:
Individuals experiencing chronic stress, burnout, or emotional fatigue
People navigating significant life transitions, identity shifts, or relationship challenges
Adolescents and young adults developing emotional regulation and self-awareness
Individuals working through anxiety, grief, trauma, or patterns that feel hard to shift
Individuals drawn to somatic, experiential, or nature-based approaches to therapy
You don’t need to be in crisis to start therapy. Many clients simply want space to reflect, reconnect, or move through a season of change with support.
Whether this is your first time seeking support or you’re returning to therapy, you’re welcome here.
